What we curated
One title for the whole day: an award-winning science documentary. We chose it for two audiences at once. It is easy to follow for someone wearing a headset for the first time, and it holds its own in front of students and academics. A single film also meant every session ran the same length, so the queue moved at a steady pace.
What we installed
Six pods in a row, in the open rather than behind closed doors, with only a rope line between the viewers and the rest of the conference. Anyone passing could stop and watch, so the installation worked like a live exhibition: people watching other people inside a film, and then joining the queue to try it.
How it ran
One day at full capacity, with 250 screenings across the six pods. The queue was the busiest part of the room, and Poetics Pods, our own software, kept it in order: it held the queue sequence and called each visitor in the order they arrived, so the operators always knew who was next and could focus on fitting headsets and guiding first-timers.
